Previously, we discussed an upcoming feature related to unlocking Android phones with a smartwatch. However, the rumored Watch Unlock feature has not been confirmed yet.
Reports from 9to5Google suggest that Google is planning to introduce this feature with the Google Pixel Watch 3, which will support UWB connectivity. This technology aims to provide faster and more secure phone unlocks compared to traditional methods like fingerprint readers or face unlock.
Details found in the Play Services app source code hint at “UWB ranging” for Watch Unlock. However, it also indicates that the feature may be limited in countries where UWB is not officially certified.
These leaks strongly suggest that Google is developing an advanced Watch Unlock feature, and the inclusion of a UWB chip in the Pixel Watch 3 could make it a reality.
