This week, OnePlus introduced the 12 and 12R for the global market after already being available in China. This release includes the US, a market less competitive than Europe and Asia and dominated by Apple and Samsung.

Those interested will find that for $800, they can buy a true flagship with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, ample memory (16/512GB thanks to a free upgrade), and a 6.82” QHD+ LTPO display. Some notable features of the phone include the great cameras (50MP main, 64MP 3x tele, and 48MP ultra wide, along with a 32MP selfie camera), though the daytime video recording could have been better. Another drawback is that the phone is rated only IP65 instead of IP68 like other flagships. It is important to note that this year, it also features wireless charging too (50W) for the 5,400mAh battery and the ability to do 80W over a wire.

For those seeking a more affordable option, the OnePlus 12R no steps down significantly with a last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip. The screen, measuring 6.78”, also drops in resolution slightly. The cameras are also not as impressive, with a smaller sensor on the 50MP main, only an 8MP ultra-wide, and no telephoto lens. The 5,500mAh battery also does only 80W wired charging.

Examining the Samsung Galaxy S24 series in terms of price, we previously listed them last week, and now, gift cards from Amazon and Best Buy are available to help make the price more affordable. Even so, $800 can buy an 8/256GB Galaxy S24 (or $750 if you subtract the gift card). The Galaxy S24 Ultra offers great video recording (including 4K 120fps and 8K modes) and can be purchased with a $200 gift card from Amazon.
