In response to a rise in accidents caused by kite strings in Punjab, the provincial government has taken action to address the dangerous activity. They have also launched a campaign to protect motorcyclists from the risks posed by kite strings.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has actively worked towards ensuring the safety of motorbike riders in the province. In a recent meeting, she instructed officials to start a campaign to install safety rods on motorcycles, specifically to protect riders from metal kite strings.
During a provincial cabinet meeting, attended by important officials, Nawaz expressed condolences for the lives lost in these accidents. This initiative highlights the government’s dedication to protecting citizens and reducing preventable risks on the roads.
Safety Measures
To help prevent such accidents, here are some simple and crucial precautions to keep in mind:
Use a safety cable: Installing a safety cable on your bike or scooter can provide important protection against accidents involving kite strings. This cable acts as a shield, preventing the kite string from getting tangled in your neck or body while riding.
Attach a flexible antenna: Another effective measure is to add a flexible antenna to the front of your bike or scooter. This antenna acts as a barrier, intercepting kite strings before they reach you and decreasing the risk of serious injury.
Wear Protective Gear: It’s essential to wear appropriate protective gear for your safety on the road. Helmets with chin guards and jackets with high collars offer added protection against kite strings and other risks.
Avoid Crowded Areas: Whenever possible, try to avoid riding through crowded areas where people are flying kites. Opting for alternative routes can reduce your exposure to kite strings and minimize the chance of accidents.
