With an aim to modernize transport infrastructure in the city, Balochistan government has taken an impressive initiative of issuing International Driving Licenses.

The launch was marked by a visit from Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfaraz Bugti to the Motorway Police’s Driving License Centre in Quetta. The Chief Minister’s unexpected presence turned the spotlight on the significance of this initiative.

Taking an active interest, he went through the theoretical and practical driving tests himself, demonstrating the importance of leading by example. His application was then forwarded to Islamabad for processing, setting a precedent for citizens to follow the formal licensing process.

Digital Driving License System In KP

The drive for modernization isn’t limited to Balochistan. In neighboring Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP), significant strides are also being made in the transport sector.

The KP Transport Department recently announced the digitization of its driving license system, a move expected to streamline operations and reduce inefficiencies.

The introduction of a mobile application, “Dastak,” is set to revolutionize the process. Through this app, individuals will be able to apply for licenses online, eliminating the need for intermediaries and reducing instances of fake licenses and fraudulent medical certifications. Overseas Pakistanis will benefit from tailored concessions, showcasing the inclusivity of this system.

This digital transformation is part of a larger initiative driven by a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the KP Transport Department and the KP Information Technology Board (KPITB). The signing ceremony, held in Hayatabad, was attended by key officials, including Special Assistants to the KP Chief Minister on Transport and IT.
