One UI 6.0 has rolled out as the Android 14 update for many Samsung devices. The latest One UI 6.1 arrived on the Galaxy S24 generation and will be available for other Galaxy devices, with the Galaxy AI as a main feature of the update.

First, let’s take a look at some of the UI basics of One UI 6.1 and the changes that have taken place.

While the Lock Screen has not had many changes, the optional Always on Display has been integrated more with the Lock Screen, showing the lock screen wallpaper and widgets.

There are changes in Gesture Navigation, Quick panel, and new animations. Samsung’s gesture navigation is no longer available, but you can bring it back using the Good Lock customization platform. The same thing goes for the option to hide the navigation bar. There are also smoother animations in One UI 6.1 and a new Quick panel layout to facilitate easier access to the most frequently used options.

An efficient toggle is now available to bring down the full list of quick toggles by swiping down from the top right corner of the display. A swipe from the top left corner brings up a list of notifications.

Other UI changes include simplified icon labels on the Home Screen and the option to move icons around with two hands. One hand holds down the icon, while the other swipes from page to page.

Quick Share has now become the Android default for content sharing, replacing Nearby Share.

A new optional toggle, Adaptive color tone, has been added within the Display settings, which adjusts white balance and colors based on ambient light conditions.

Flagship Samsung phones now support Super HDR images and advanced camera modes in social apps such as Instagram, WhatsApp, TikTok, and Snapchat.

Another noteworthy feature is the Galaxy AI, which has been introduced in One UI 6.1 and will be available on older Samsung devices as well. Google’s Gemini AI model availability will depend on different regions and hardware, and Samsung has partnered with Baidu AI in China to power Galaxy AI features. A subscription model for some new Samsung/Galaxy AI features might become a reality after 2025.

Other AI features include Circle to search, which allows users to identify and detect objects on the screen, Writing Assistant, which includes chat translation, spelling, grammar, and writing style correction, Photomoji, Live translate for calls, and an Interpreter for in-person translation. These features are available in different languages and apps.

AI has also been integrated into Samsung Notes, Samsung Voice recorder, and Samsung Internet browser. These AI features offer various functions such as text translation, spelling and grammar correction, format the text, generate summaries, and provides instant slow-mo editing.

There’s a feature, Generative wallpapers, that allows users to generate custom wallpapers for their device.

These AI features contribute to a smooth and user-friendly experience on the S24 Series devices running One UI 6.1.
