The vivo X100 Pro was initially released in China last year and began its international rollout this year. Our evaluation of the vivo X100 Pro revealed it to be another remarkable camera phone from vivo. Alongside this, vivo also introduced the vivo X100, which offers some notable upgrades over the X90 model. After using the vivo X100 for over a month, here’s what we discovered about it.

Design

The vivo X100 features a 6.78″ FullHD+ curved AMOLED display with a 120Hz screen refresh rate and 3,000 nits peak brightness. It sports a centered punch-hole for the 32MP selfie camera and a fingerprint reader for convenient phone unlocking.

We found the fingerprint scanner to be fast and accurate, with no issues. However, we did suggest that placing it slightly higher would enhance the unlocking experience. The rear panel of the vivo X100 is covered with Flourite AG Glass, similar to the vivo X100 Pro. The circular camera module is larger than the X90’s, centrally aligned to prevent wobbling when placed on flat surfaces.

The camera module’s design on the X100, called Moon Halo, is inspired by the Moon and stars, symbolizing brilliance and nobility. It offers ZEISS’ T* coating and a 2.5D rounded Gorilla Glass lens surrounded by austenitic stainless steel for protection against wear, high temperatures, and corrosion.

Available in blue, black, white, and orange colors, the vivo X100’s Stargaze Blue model in India and Startrail Blue in other regions flaunts a glittery pattern on the back panel, reflecting light at different angles while preventing fingerprint smudges.

vivo X100 hands-on review

While the vivo X100 is comfortable for one-handed use due to its lightweight, its size may pose challenges for users with small hands. The increased camera bump also presents difficulties in holding the phone at times. The metal frames with antenna lines on all sides add a premium look to the device.

Located on the right-side frame are the power button and volume rocker, providing good feedback. At the bottom, you’ll find the USB-C port, SIM card slot, primary microphone, and speaker grille, while the top houses the IR blaster and secondary mic. Like the X100 Pro, the X100 also features the text “Professional Photography” at the top.

The design and build quality of the vivo X100, especially in the captivating Stargaze Blue variant, are highly commendable. Additionally, the IP68 dust and water resistance certification is an appreciated upgrade over the X90. Overall, the design of the vivo X100 is sleek and premium.

Display

The vivo X100 is equipped with a 6.78″ 120Hz curved AMOLED display boasting a resolution of 2,800×1,260 pixels and a pixel density of 452 ppi. Supporting 1.07 billion colors, the display is HDR10+, HDR10, HLG, and Widevine L1 certified, allowing for seamless viewing of content in high quality.

Unlike the X90’s non-LTPO panel with a peak brightness of 1,300 nits, the X100 comes with an 8T LTPO panel offering a peak brightness of 3,000 nits, similar to the X100 Pro. The haptic feedback on the X100 is improved compared to the X90, enhancing the overall user experience.

The vivo X100 offers smooth and bright visuals, making it ideal for reading, viewing photos, and watching videos even in direct sunlight. The Smart Switch, Standard (60Hz), and High (120Hz) refresh rate options provide flexibility to users, while the display’s support for seven refresh rates ensures optimal performance.

With enhanced gaming features like Game Frame Interpolation and multiple refresh rate options, the vivo X100 offers a top-notch display experience for users.

The introduction of Intelligent Display Chips (IDC) in the X100 series, like the V3 chip in the X100 Pro and the V2 chip in the X100, enhances the phone’s photography and display capabilities. The availability of different refresh rates and gaming features make the display experience on the vivo X100 impressive.

Software and Performance

Powered by the Dimensity 9300 SoC, the vivo X100 offers up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. Running on Android 14-based Funtouch OS 14, the X100 promises three Android version upgrades and four years of security updates to users.

Pre-installed third-party apps on the X100 can be uninstalled, providing a clean software experience to users. With the promise of continued security updates and smooth performance, the vivo X100’s software and performance are commendable.
