Even if the consumer manages to make the budget, they just don’t make sense for the price they cost. So here we are with the best local alternatives to imported cars.
Toyota Prado
The best alternative to the Toyota Prado is the Toyota Fortuner.
The brand new Toyota Prado 2024 will cost you around 7.8 crore PKR, and that’s the invoice price of the car without taxes and duties. If you include the tax and duty, Prado will cost you around 8.2-8.4 crore PKR.
The Tank 500 HEV is a Chinese-origin car, but it is a far better alternative to the Prado TX. It’s HEV, fuel-efficient, and features-wise, a superior option in the price range. All interior is super premium, and by no means it gives a cheap or cost-cutting look.
The Tank 500 HEV’s invoice price is about 2.4 crore PKR. The car has not been launched in Pakistan yet, but hopefully, it will be in late 2024.
Honda Vezel
The best alternative to the Honda Vezel is the Haval Jolion HEV.
The Honda Vezel is indeed a good car, especially interior-wise. With soft leather on the dashboard, all-electric seats with digital climate control, and four airbags, it was a perfect package until 2022. Then customs duties increased on imported cars, and the rest is history.
Today, a 2021 model Vezel would cost you 1.3 Crore PKR, with 20-30k Km on the odometer. If you think this makes sense, then you’re either too rich or just a blind Honda fanboy.
The best and wise alternative to Vezel is Haval Jolion HEV. The Jolion HEV has better options than the Vezel, is 20 lacs cheaper, and is all brand-new with official warranty support from the 3s dealership.
In terms of built quality, unless you’re a Chinese hater, the built quality is excellent and better than that of Honda.
Toyota Prius
The best alternative to the Honda Vezel is the Toyota Corolla Cross HEV.
Prius is internationally recognized as the best HEV vehicle. It’s super reliable and the best fuel saver. The new generation, i.e., 2020-2021, will cost you at least 1.15 crore PKR with 10-30k Km on the odometer.
Spending 1.15 crore on a used Toyota sedan just doesn’t make sense from any perspective. The alternative, the Toyota Corolla Cross, is a better option. It’s, first of all, Crossover, so you get better truck space and a more spacious cabin than the Prius.
Secondly, it’s also Toyota and based on the same platform as the Prius, so reliability-wise, it’s the same as the Prius. Plus, Cross will be brand new, and the main thing is that you will get a full 10-year official warranty and support from Toyota Indus Motors.
Daihatsu Mira
The best alternative to Daihatsu Mira is Suzuki Alto AGS.
The Mira 2019-20 model would cost about 30 – 32 lacs PKR. For 3 million PKR, you get all the best hi-techs and solid built quality. However, the 660cc engine might be small, and the cabin space is not that great.
In the local segment, you can get an Alsvin or a Cultus AGS, which offers far better cabin space and a bigger engine. If you still wish to go with a 660cc Kei car due to fuel economy, it is better to choose the Suzuki Alto AGS. It’ll be all brand-new and much cheaper than JDM Kei cars.
The build quality will be a bit more compromised than the imported ones, but overall, PKDM Alto AGS is a wise choice financially.
Toyota Vitz
The best alternative to Toyota Vitz is Swift GL (CVT).
Toyota Vitz is a 1,000cc JDM hatchback. The used 2018-19 model will cost you about 43-45 lacs PKR. In terms of features, it’s not too great. There are all-fabric seats, manual AC controls, doesn’t even have a RPM meter, and no multi-media steering controls.
Swift GL CVT is a far better choice than it. It’s a bit more expensive than Vitz but a great deal overall, and you get full support from Suzuki 3s dealership.
Toyota Crown
The best alternative for Toyota Crown is the Hyundai Sonata.
Crown is no wonder that it is a great luxury car, even better than Mercedes C and E class, and you get Toyota’s reliability. The starting price of the 2020 model Crown is 2.1 crore PKR. Now that’s a bit overpriced. In Crown’s 50% budget, you can get a brand Hyundai Sonata. Both cars are D-segment full-size sedans, and both offer top-of-the-class comfort and luxury, but Toyota takes the lead in driving quality and reliability. But considering the price, you can get 2 2024 Sonata for the price.
