Inflation is soaring daily, with average car pricing ranging from 4-6 million PKR. You can get an Alto for under 2.5 million PKR. But we all know the built quality of the Suzuki Alto, and this car doesn’t justify its price bracket. Especially in the base variant, you don’t even get an AC, power windows, and not even rim covers, but still, it would cost you 2.3 million PKR on-road price.
Therefore, we have brought you some of the best sedans under 20 lacs PKR that at least make sense and are worth the price. You just need to spend some time in the mechanic’s workshop and empty your wallet on their repairs, but they will be much better than the brand-new Suzuki Alto VX.
Honda City could be the most value-for-money used car. There are some other good options, like Civic Eagle Eye and Corolla 10th Generation. If you go with a Civic, you probably need to buy a petrol pump with this car, i.e., 7-8 Km/l in the city and 10-11 Km/l in the long. Corolla, in this budget, will have above 150,0000 Km on the odometer. Therefore, City i-DSI proves to be the best sedan in this segment. It’s a 1300cc car, fuel economy is excellent, and the cabin space is just enough for a mid-size family. In the city, it is 12-13 km/l, and in the long, you can get 14-16 km/l. The spares are readily available, but “Kaabli” not new, and drive quality is also great in the segment.
The Honda Civic Eagle Eye was one of the most popular cars of its time. It was considered the car of the youth because of its looks and performance. Eagle eyes inspired the front shape, hence the name “Eagle Eye,” and the side profile was lower for good aerodynamics. Packed with a 1600cc Honda’s iconic Vtec engine that produces 125 HP of power and 160 Nm of torque. However, as we mentioned earlier, the fuel economy of this Civic is not that great, about 7-8 Km/l in the city. Other than fuel economy, it’s all a good car and worth the price.
The Corolla 10th generation is also a good car—at least it’s a Toyota. It is solidly built and made to last. However, Corolla’s resale is higher than City of the same price and same model year. That’s why, under 20 lacs, you’ll get a higher mileage Corolla than the City.
But at the cost, you get an excellent car compared to the City. Its suspensions are all-rounder; from off-roading to city riding, it will never disappoint you. The engine is also great and can do at least 500,000 Km if appropriately maintained.
Lancer is also a good car. Drive-wise and built-wise, it’s a good car, even better than today’s new cars.
The problem with Lancer is the spare pricing and availability. Its spares are costly and rarely available in the local market, so you might need to import them from Japan or Dubai.
On the good side, it has a wooden-finished dashboard, PU leather seats, power seats, and windows, and a nice cabin space. The 1600cc petrol engine is also adequate for highways and motorway drives.
Before thinking about buying this vehicle, remember that Liana was a flop car. The car itself was the best machine, but it didn’t work because of the market’s mindset. Basically, Liana was way ahead of its time when it launched in the market. It used to be one of the first EFI cars that our local mechanics couldn’t understand, and in the end, they renamed it “Liana MtLyna.”
Today, it’s a good car, but the availability of resale and spares is just not good. The ride is good, and cabin space is equal to the Corolla.
