If you’re planning to do a long tour on your motorcycle, this blog will probably benefit you. In this one, we’ll calculate and give you an estimate of travel times from Lahore to Islamabad on a motorcycle, including CG125, GS150, and YBR 125.
Note: The information is sourced from our experts who have already done tours on their motorcycles, which were GR150, CG125, and YBR 125 DX.
Suzuki GS150
The Suzuki GS150 is probably the best motorcycle for long tours. First of all, it’s a 150cc engine, so torque, and power-wise, it’ll not disappoint you. In the 5th gear, you can easily set its cruise to 180-100 km/h. At 80 km/h, the RPM will be 6,000, and at 100 km/h, its RPM will be 8,200.
If you cruise it to 90 km/h and we include the breaking and stopping time, as it’s GT road, you’ll probably encounter chingchis, donkey karts, and rickshaws there. So, without taking breaks in the journey, it’ll take you 6 hours.
However, on a motorcycle, you can’t ride just 347 km without taking any breaks. You might need to stop for washroom, food, and tea breaks. We’ll roughly add a cumulative 1.5 hours in the brakes and food stops.
So, it’ll take approximately 7.5 hours for you to travel from Lahore to Murree on GS150 while enjoying the road trip.
Honda CG125
CG125 might not be the best bike for long tours, but people do take in on long rides. The reason is simple: cost! While YBRs, GS, and CB will break your bank, i.e., all cost more than 450,000 PKR, CG125 is the cheapest 125cc that money can get you, i.e., 230,000 PKR.
Besides its uncomfortable brick seats and generator-like vibrations, it’s a pretty solid machine. The engine is very reliable, and its performance and power are up to the mark, even better than those of YBR and GSX125.
If you’ve finally made up your mind to go on a long route on CG, it’s indeed possible. Just remember to take breaks and stop every 80 Km or after 1.5 hours.
Due to the four gears, you can only cruise it to 70 km/h @7,000 RPMS. Cruising at higher speeds above 70 km/h will put an immense load on the inside engine components.
With all the stops, breaks, and cruising speed, it’ll take you at least 9-10 hours to complete the tour from Lahore to Murree on CG125 without hurting your back.
Yamaha YBR 125 (DX, G and Z)
The YBR is another good motorcycle for long tours. The small and underpowered 125cc engine might affect ride quality in the hills of Murree, but overall, it’s a very good and smooth ride from Lahore to Islamabad.
The maximum cruise that you can do in it is 80 Km/h in the 5th gear at 7,000 RPM. The seats of the YBR are good, and it’ll not hurt your back even if you ride it for non-stop 4 hours. However, we suggest you take breaks after every 2 hours for 15-30 minutes.
At the speed of 80 Km/h, if you take breaks every 2 hours, it’ll probably take you 8 hours to travel from Lahore to Murree, including all the food, washroom, and rest breaks.
Suzuki GD110s
The Suzuki GD110s are not ideal motorcycles for a long ride. They are indeed one of the most comfortable rides, but the only thing that makes them a bad tourer is their underpowered 110cc engine. The motorcycle’s alloy wheels and curb weight make it sluggish, and it feels so underpowered that you can hardly take it to 80 km/h.
You can only cruise it to a maximum speed of 50-60 Km/h in the 4th gear. Due to no RPM meter, we don’t know how much RPMs it runs on the 50-60 Km/h, but we guess that it is a good speed for a motorcycle like this.
In the hills of Murree, we don’t think it can go above the speed of 40 Km/h. If you have GD, you can do the tour on it, but if you’re planning to buy a bike dedicated to long tours, you better go with YBR or GS150.
Overall, in GD110s, it’ll take you 9-10.5 hours to complete the journey from Lahore to Murree.
Honda CD70
Honda CD70: We know it’s not a bike made for traveling but for casual city rides. However, our people are able to take it to Khunjerab pass, so the Murree tour is not a fuss. First of all, we highly recommend not taking it on long rides; it’s not a good decision in any way. If you do want to do Lahore to Murree on a 70cc, it’s going to be a very time-consuming journey.
It is a 70cc bike, so you can’t cruise it above 55 Km/h unless you want to damage the health of the engine. Even after that, you’ll have to make frequent stops as your back will start hurting after riding for more than 40 minutes.
So adding all the brakes and 55 Km/h cruising speeds, including braking, stops, and breaks, it’ll take at least 10-11 hours to complete the Journey from Lahore to Murree on CD70.
