Heavy rains and flooding in the Kaghan Valley caused landslides and washed away the Mahandri Bridge, the only bridge connecting Naran and Kaghan. All tourists in Naran, Kaghan, and Batakundi are now trapped.

Attention travelers to Naran/Kaghan!

For the past week, there has been heavy rain in the Kaghan, Naran, and Batakundi areas. The cherry on top is the glacier meltdown, which increased the water level of the Kunhar River, which flows across the Naran, Mahandri, Kaghan, and Babusar.

The increased water level in the Kunhar River washed away the Naran bridge in Mahandri yesterday. This bridge was the only way of connection to Naran and Kaghan.

Although the water level in Kunhar Valley is decreasing now, multiple areas in Kaghan Valley are facing landslides.

The locals of Naran and Mandhri are now building a temporary bridge to evacuate the trapped tourists and reopen the route. They said it would take at least 4-5 days to build the temporary bridge.

Unfortunately, all tourists are trapped in the Naran and Kaghan areas, and there is no way for them to leave. According to the locals, the only alternative route to leave Naran and Kaghan is the Chilas route, which goes through the Babusar, Chilas, and then Besham.

Here’s the illustration for your easy understanding:

naran bridge collapsedIt doesn’t just end here. Our sources in Chilas told us that there are heavy traffic jams all over the highway due to people’s panic. Every tourist is now in a hurry to leave the area as soon as they can, which is creating a huge traffic jam all over the Chilas and Babusar highway.

Important Advisory

Tourists are advised to use the Chilas route if they’re trapped in Naran. Those on their way to Naran and Kaghan must go back immediately, as there are very high chances of the land sliding again near Batakundi.

Further monsoon rains are expected in Kashmir and Nothern areas, including Murree, Nathia Gali, Manshera, Babusar Top, and Chitral. The authorities advise people to avoid any tour these days, at least for these 5-7 days.
