Toyota Pakistan, famous for its sedans in the country, also has another renowned “Hilux” pickup truck series, which is further classified into “Revo” and “Vigo” variants featuring single—and double-cab chassis. It is essential to know that these all come with diesel engines.

For enthusiasts, the episode became surprising when the company announced that it has discontinued a “petrol variant” of Single cabin Hilux. The fact which makes the situation interesting was a simple question, Acha! petrol variant bhi tha.

Hold on! Let us clear up the confusion. The ceased petrol variant was not prominent among the customers because diesel variants were reigning the segment. For us, this could be the probable reason which ultimately urged the car makers to say an ultimate goodbye.

Though the company has unmarked the vehicle from the production list, we consider it mandatory to at least share some of its features and specifications.

Features & Specification

Starting with engine and performance, Hilux single cabin was equipped with 4 cylinder in-line 2TR-FE engine mated with 5-speed manual transmission carrying the capacity to produce maximum output and torque of 122kW and torque of 245Nm.

Meanwhile, the safety features were SRS bags for driver and front passenger Immobilizer, key reminder, engine oil leveling warning, light reminder, clutch start safety, seatbelt, and anti-locking braking system.

Another Update

Another recent update from the Toyota Indus Motor (IMC) was something depressing. The local car assembler halted the production of its car for a week. In a communication to Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the company revealed the update.

The notice read:

“Based on the current low level of inventory of manufactured vehicles, and shortage of parts and components for manufacturing of vehicles, due to supply chain challenges, the company has decided to close its production plant from 15th July 2024 to 22nd July 2024 (both days inclusive).”

With shattered economic charts, hyper-inflation, and ceased purchase power of customers, Pakistan’s car stands at a critical juncture. For instance, according to JS Research report, BIG 3, including Pakistan Suzuki Motor Company (PSMC), Honda Atlas, and Toyota Indus Motor (IMC), sold 88,000 units combined for the fiscal year 2023-24, plunged to a 21-year low.
