If you’re in the market for a crossover under 75 lacs, you have two choices: a used hybrid JDM or a brand new NA petrol PKDM car.
In JDM, the Honda Vezel is the best option for a hybrid crossover over 75 lacs.
On the local side, the brand-new Peugeot 2008 Allure and MG HS 1.5T are the best options.
We know that comparing Vezel with 2008 and HS is like comparing mangoes with oranges, as both have different consumer segments. But, let’s just say, for the sake of curiosity, do you want to know which is actually a better and wiser choice? Here’s the comparison for those who just have curiosity.
In this part, we’ll compare the Vezel with 2008, and in the next part, we’ll compare it with the MG HS.
Honda Vezel | Verdict
Vezel is a Japanese hybrid crossover with a 1.5 L engine. It’s a popular option among those looking to import JDM hybrids on a 60-80 lac budget. It became a popular imported vehicle in 2016-18, when there were no locally assembled HEV cars in the market, and imports were cheap at that time.
Later, in 2018-21, imports became expensive, but it’s still the most demanded vehicle in the HEV market, after Aqua and Prius. The driver, comfort, and luxury of this vehicle are just up to the mark with no compromise. Moreover, in terms of resale, it’s Honda, so reselling isn’t an issue for it.
Brand-new spare parts might be expensive and difficult to source, but “Kaabli” parts are available at reasonable pricing in Lahore’s Bilal Gunj.
Peugeot 2008 | Verdict
The Puegot 2008 is a good option. It’s overpriced, but compared to the Corolla and Elantra, it sounds like an excellent value-for-money car.
Peugeot is a French company that came to Pakistan in 2022. Unlike Vezel, it’ll be a brand-new option. Another edge of 2008 is its official support from the brand, while Vezel has no official support from the Honda 3s dealership.
Now, if we talk about its hi-tech goodies and interior/exterior design, it’s controversial and depends on person to person. From our team’s POV, we like the interior/exterior of the 2008. Peugeot is more like Cyberpunk design, while Vezel is more like a sophisticated gentleman.
Market Resale
Winner: Honda Vezel
While the Honda Vezel is an overpriced, accidental-used JDM, it still has a better resale value. First, it’s older in the market than Peugeot. Second, Vezel has a Honda badge, which influences the market resale value.
Peugeot is a new brand, and its 2008 launch was just 2-3 years ago in the market. Unlike Vezel, in which you can quickly source “Kaabli parts” from a local parts market, Peugeot 2008 doesn’t work like that. There are no Kaabli parts; you only have a 3S dealership for parts sourcing, which is a hell of a lot more expensive. Some factors give the Honda Vezel an edge in terms of resale value.
Parts Pricing
Winner: Honda Vezel
Honda Vezel, being one of the oldest cars in the market, has fine parts pricing. You can easily find used Kaabli parts for Vezel. Peugeot 2008’s parts are not Kaabli available; they are all new and only available on demand from Peugeot’s official dealership.
We can’t tell you the exact pricing of Vezel, as it depends on which City you’re residing in and from which market you’re finding the part. In Lahore’s Bilal Gunj, the pricing will be cheaper, while it may be expensive in Islamabad’s market.
Value for Money
Winner: Peugeot 2008
The Peugeot 2008 is more valuable for money, for sure. It’ll be all brand new with complete support from its manufacturer.
On the other hand, Vezel is an overpriced used JDM car. You’ll pay almost 90% more of its original price in taxes and import customs. After paying that much money, you still won’t get any 3s support from Honda.
Both are crossovers; both are great drive-wise, have solidly built quality and specs, and are fully loaded. However, one is brand new, and the other is used for the same price, so 2008 is a better option.
Fuel Economy
Winner: Honda Vezel
Of course, Vezel takes the edge; it’s an HEV vehicle with a 1.5L engine and hybrid terrain. We suggest that if your preference is fuel economy, then Vezel is a good option. 2008 is also a good choice; it’s a 1200cc NA engine with no hybrid power.
Honda Vezel’s fuel economy in the city is 18-22 Km/l
Peugeot 2008’s fuel economy in the city is 10-13 Km/l
