In last couple of years first the pandemic and the later ongoing economic meltdown shattered the local car industry. Historic downtrend in sales and series of production cuts urged local car makers to avoid the launch of new cars. However, when the economic situation is getting better, car companies started launching new models.
In a recent update, new 7th generation Hyundai Elantra is spotted in Baluchistan. It simply means that the company can launch the car this year soon. In international market, the Korean car maker launched hybrid and petrol variant of Elantra but we might get the hybrid one.
Below are the images of the latest Hyundai Elantra spotted somewhere in Baluchistan.
In March 2021, we got a domestic model 6th Gen Hyundai Elantra. Interestingly, it was a time when the international market had already welcomed the latest 7th generation of the vehicle. Not surprisingly, we observed the same in Honda City’s case, got 6th Gen Honda City when the latest 7th Gen model was cruising down the roads in neighboring country.
Why we get the old model of Elantra?
There was a lot of commotion about not launching the 7th generation Elantra. It was disappointing, and naturally, everyone preferred to see the latest model rather than an outdated one.
We need to understand certain facts. These same facts applied to the launch of the previous generation of the Elantra as well. Unfortunately, when Hyundai-Nishat began developing a local model, Hyundai global was almost ready with the 7th generation.
Initially, the 7th generation was assembled at only three plants, all operated by Hyundai, serving both local markets and exports. These plants, located in the USA, Korea, and China, were large factories producing hundreds of thousands to over a million units per year.
In contrast, Pakistan’s automobile industry operates on CKD (Completely Knocked Down) assembly lines, and without CKD kits, a company cannot manufacture a model locally. Furthermore, the parent company has minimal ownership in the local joint ventures. Our local industry lacks research and development and does not benefit from technology transfer.
We depend on parts and kits, and until they are made available by the principal companies, we can’t introduce a new model. Car companies typically don’t offer CKD kits immediately. Even in the US, one of the Elantra’s largest markets, the manufacturing of the 7th generation began only a few months ago.
