The Sindh government has taken a significant step towards women’s empowerment with the launch of two new routes for the women-only Pink Bus Service. Female passengers can now avail themselves of this service free of cost for a period of two months.

This initiative, part of the Peoples Bus Service, aims to provide safe and convenient transportation options for women across the region.

New Routes

The new routes connect Powerhouse Chowrangi in North Karachi with Nasir Jump in Korangi, and Gulshan-e-Hadeed to Tower, expanding the reach of the Pink Bus Service to more areas. With a total of five routes now operational and a fleet of 10 new buses, thousands of women are expected to benefit from this service on these busy routes.

During the launching ceremony at Frere Hall Karachi, Faryal Talpur, chief of the Pakistan Peoples Party women’s division, lauded the initiative as a “gift from the Sindh government to women.” She emphasized the importance of providing safe and comfortable travel options for women, stating that such facilities are essential for fostering development and prosperity in society.

Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon announced the two-month free travel offer for all women passengers on the new routes in response to Ms. Talpur’s appeal for more economical fares. The ceremony was also attended by Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad, and Sindh Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah.

Minister Memon highlighted that the Pink Bus Service aligns with the PPP’s manifesto, which promises women empowerment. Launched in February 2023, the service now operates on five routes, including ones passing through major landmarks such as Model Colony, II Chundrigar Road, Indus Hospital, Sea View Beach, and Ibrahim Hyderi.

The Pink Bus Service not only provides women with safe and affordable transportation but also symbolizes the government’s commitment to gender equality and empowerment.

By expanding its reach and offering free travel for an initial period, the Sindh government aims to make a tangible difference in the lives of women across the province.
