Exporting the cars might be a dream for Pakistani automakers (except Changan Pakistan), but here is an update narrating a reality. The economist Abdul Rehman Najam, in his tweet, revealed a welcoming move from the country’s largest agricultural machinery manufacturer, dubbed “Millat Tractors.”

The Milestone

As per his tweet, the company is all set to export about 3000 tractors in FY24 to countries like Africa, Afghanistan, South America, and the Middle East. The tractor industry stands out as a success story in terms of localization.

Meanwhile, Changan Pakistan is also a market player. In October 2023, Changan Pakistan exported a batch of 14 Oshan X7s to Kenyan and Tanzanian markets, making Changan Pakistan the country’s largest exporter of technologically advanced SUVs in international markets.

It is related to mention that Changan Pakistan is the new entrant in the country’s local auto market. So, what’s your excuse, Big 3? It’s time to step up the game in the export market.

A day back, Prime Minister urged the local auto makers to take a part to boost country economy by exporting cars. Suffice it to say, the Premier pushed the car makers to manufacture the cars locally, given that the import of car kits definitely casts a pall over the country’s already depleting foreign reserves.

Auto Policy 2021-26

Under “Auto Industry Development and Export Policy 2021-2026,” the then government aimed to support the production and export of vehicles as a broader strategy to steer out the country’s economy of bad days.

In contrast, the success of this initiative heavily relies on government policies that promote and incentivize exports. The automotive sector has submitted proposals to ensure that the export activities are viable and sustainable in the long term.

These proposals include measures to increase local production volumes, improve economies of scale, and enhance global competitiveness through deeper localization of auto parts.
