Over the past 3-5 years, these online ride-hailing services have overtaken regular taxis and even local roadside rickshaw stands. However, if you regularly use these ride-hailing cabs, primarily if you use Mini, Mini GO, and Comfort rides, you’ll probably see 3-4 car models appear regularly. Why is that? In this article, we’ll mention the best car models to use in ride-hailing services and why they are best for that.
Suzuki WagonR
The WagonR is also the national car on ride-hailing platforms. For some reason, almost everyone who wants to become a captain always prefers WagonR, and this car is indeed the best choice for this job.
First of all, WagonR is spacious, and up to five people with two large-size bags can fit in the car. Secondly, thanks to its slim tires and Suzuki R series engine, its fuel economy is best in the 1,000cc segment, e.g., 13-15 Km/l in the city with AC. The AC performance is also great, maintenance is easy, and spares are cheap to buy.
One more reason is WagonR’s availability in the used market. From 18-28 lacks the budget, it suits most of the potential riders who want to drive on ride-hailing services.
Suzuki Alto
Alto is another popular car for ride-hailing services. We all know why it’s popular: its fuel economy and ease of maintenance. It was introduced in 2019, and since then, almost half of its buyers are ride-hailing riders. With a fuel economy of 14-18 Km/l, it generates a good profit margin. Moreover, it’s the cheapest brand-new, reliable car that you can buy right now, so that’s another reason why it’s the top choice of riders. While its built quality is not so good, but that’s not the thing that riders look for. As long as the car is reliable, maintenance is easy, and the economy is good, it’s a good car to be used as an online taxi.
Suzuki Mehran
Also known as the “Boss,” this vehicle is an all-purpose machine that fits in almost any situation. Whether it’s for commercial purposes, family car, or off-road usage, it will work for any condition; that’s why it’s called the “Boss.”
Especially in ride-hailing services, it’s mostly used in the Mini category. The only problem with it is the AC. It just doesn’t work, which means the rider only uses their Mehran in the Mini. Its maintenance is not just cheap; it’s the cheapest, almost the same as a YBR 125.
The main thing is that Mehran is probably the only reliable car that you can buy under 9-12 lacs PKR. Therefore, it’s probably the first choice for those who can’t afford upper-budget cars like Alto and WagonR.
Suzuki Cultus (1st Generation)
Cultus is also the car of ride-hailing riders, but it’s rarely seen. The reason is its fuel economy and expensive spares. Although it’s a good car, if you’re specifically looking to use it for ride-hailing services, you better look for another alternative. It’s a 1,000cc engine with a fuel economy of 11-13 Km/l, which is not the best as compared to Mehran and WagonR.
However, if you already have a Cultus and are thinking of using it for the ride-hailing platform, you can go with it without worries. Just make sure your AC is working so you can use it on Comfort, Mini GO, and GO, as these have good profit margins for low-fuel-economy cars like Cultus.
Honda City (old)
Honda City mostly appears in AC Ride, Business, or Executive class rides. Indeed, its fuel economy is lower, maintenance is more expensive, and overall running cost is more expensive than Alto. However, the good thing is the earnings, being used in upper segment class, it’ll earn a rider almost 100% more than the Alto and WagonR in Mini and GO Mini class.
If you have a good budget, City could be a good option for ride-hailing services, and it’ll earn you a better profit than mini hatchbacks. Moreover, you can also use it for family use at night; it’s spacious, the AC works well, and it is an ideal family sedan car.
JDM 660cc’s
3-4 years back, they were the most used car by ride-hailing riders. However, in 2022, when imports got banned and the dollar soared to record hikes, they abandoned and riders preferred to use locally made cars instead of them. 3-4 years back, you could have found a good condition 660cc JDM for under 12-15 lacs PKR, and now the same model will cost you no less than 27-30 lacs PKR, and that’ll will be accidental for sure. Riders always go with a secure and safe option, which is to buy a locally assembled new car like Alto or used WagonR. Although these 660cc JDMs are a good option in these rid-hailing platforms, their AC works well, and they have exceptional fuel economy as well as comfortable ride quality, but their buying cost is just too expensive!
