The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has introduced a stricter regime for vehicle registration and number plates, aiming to streamline the process and ensure compliance.

The Excise & Taxation (E&T) department is at the forefront of implementing these new rules, which will have a direct impact on vehicle owners in the city. One of the most significant changes is the crackdown on non-standard number plates. Vehicles flaunting such plates will face cancellation of registration, and owners will be required to pay a hefty re-registration fee to rectify the situation.

The re-registration fees vary based on engine capacity. While owners of vehicles with engines up to 1000cc will have to pay Rs. 5,000, those with engines between 1000cc and 2000cc will face a higher fee of Rs. 10,000. For vehicles with engines exceeding 2000cc, the re-registration fee is a steep Rs. 20,000. Even motorcycles are not exempt, with a re-registration fee of Rs. 1,000 imposed on them.

To deter repeat offenders, the E&T department has also introduced a penalty multiplier. If a vehicle is found to be in violation of the new rules more than once, the owner will be slapped with a fine five times the original amount.

These stringent measures are aimed at standardizing vehicle registration and ensuring that all vehicles plying on Islamabad’s roads adhere to the prescribed norms. While the changes may inconvenience some vehicle owners, they are expected to bring about a more organized and regulated transportation system in the city.

Documents Needed For Imported Car Registration?

In Punjab, the documents for imported vehicle registration to the name of an import are as follows.

The application for the vehicle registration is in Form F.

  • Copy of the CNIC of the owner
  • Custom authorities declared import permission forms.
  • Copy of CNIC of the individual
  • A duplicated copy of GD showing payments of taxes
  • Copy of bill of lading
  • Copy of invoice
  • Payment of registration fee, number plate fee, and other taxes.
