After an anticipation of decrease in petrol prices in the country – a welcoming move, daily commuters, commercial and passenger vehicles moving across the highways and motorways have faced an uneven situation translating an increase in toll tax fee.
The Fee Hike
As per the media reports, the National Highway Authority (NHA) has come up with a jump of up to 30% in toll tax fee which will be effective from July 1, 2024. The National highways, including M-1, M-3, M-4, M-5, in conjunction with Havelian-Mansehra Expressway will come under the effect of the recent move.
Starting with the national highways, the toll tax for cars has seen a 33% increase, moving from Rs. 30 to Rs. 40. Wagons face a 40% hike, with their toll tax rising from Rs. 50 to Rs. 70.
Similarly, Buses, essential for public transport, now pay Rs. 130 instead of the previous Rs. 100, marking a 30% increase. Trucks with 2 to 3 axles will now pay Rs. 150, up from Rs. 120, and large trucks experience a substantial rise from Rs. 250 to Rs. 350, translating to a 40% increase.
The M-1 Motorway, a critical route connecting Peshawar and Islamabad, has also seen notable adjustments. For cars, the toll has increased from Rs. 240 to Rs. 360, a 50% rise. Wagons now pay Rs. 550, up from Rs. 400, while 13 to 14 seat coasters have their toll increased from Rs. 550 to Rs. 700. Buses will now incur a toll of Rs. 1,000, up from Rs. 700. For 2 to 3 axle trucks, the toll has risen from Rs. 1,040 to Rs. 1,300, and large trucks will now pay Rs. 1,500 instead of Rs. 1,270.
Meanwhile, commuters on the Lahore-Abdul Hakeem Motorway will face higher costs as well. Cars will now be tolled Rs. 500, up from Rs. 350. Wagons see an increase from Rs. 570 to Rs. 750, and 13 to 24 seat buses from Rs. 850 to Rs. 1,150. Larger buses will pay Rs. 1,500, up from Rs. 1,200. For 2 to 3 axle trucks, the toll rises from Rs. 1,500 to Rs. 2,100, and for large trucks, the toll has been increased from Rs. 1,910 to Rs. 2,500.
