Porsche stated it would make the 4th generation Cayenne in an EV version, but they will continue selling the hybrid and Gas-powered versions “up to and beyond 2030,” said Porsche’s spokesperson.
Porsche has confirmed that the third-generation gas-powered Cayenne will stay in production alongside the fourth-generation EV version. In the future, the 3rd generation will receive improvements in its powertrain, such as improving the twin-turbo V8’s efficiency.
On the electric side, after the Taycan launched in 2019, Porsche’s lineup is about to get crowded. So far, the electric Macan crossover was introduced in early 2024, with the EV replacements for the 718 Cayman and Boxster sports cars coming in late 2024. Just last year, Porsche also confirmed that the 4th generation Cayenne will also go electric, along with hybrid and ICE (Internal Combustion Engine,) with no chance of discontinuation until 2030.
So far, limited details of the Cayenne EV are available. But, sources claim that the company will use Porsche’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE) as a platform with 800V super-charging technology, the same tech that is used in Taycan and Macan electric. Moreover, according to multiple news sources, Porsche’s EV Cayenne prototypes are already on the road for testing with camouflage wrap.

Coming to the ICE version, in mid-2023, HEV and ICE Cayenne received a major facelift. They adopted a sleeker exterior design, revised the interior, and gained more horsepower across the lineup. The S variant also got an upgrade from a V6 twin-turbo (348 HP) to a V8 twin-turbo (468 HP).
Porsche said in a statement, “Extensive technical measures will ensure that the twin-turbo engine is ready to comply with future legislative requirements.”
Definitely, the future of EVs and combustion cars depends on the sales and market demand. For instance, the UK will permanently ban the sales of all gas-powered engine cars starting in 2030.
