After announcing a ‘bike scheme’ for students, the Punjab government took a step further and came up with a similar plan for teachers, too, allowing them to travel more easily and save money. The provincial government is giving electric bikes to 15,000 teachers across the province. Provincial Education Minister Sikandar Hayat is leading the campaign.

According to media reports, the plan will have three parts. First, 5,000 teachers will get electric bikes. Then, in later stages, 10,000 more teachers will get them.

Giving electric bikes to teachers will help them because petrol prices are high. It will make their journey to school more accessible and cheaper. This change is expected to save teachers money on traveling. Minister Hayat thinks this plan will be good for both teachers and the environment.

Bike Scheme for Students

Last month, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif started a program for university students too. They will offer 20,000 bikes, both electric and petrol ones.

Total Bikes: The government plans to distribute 20,000 bikes, 1,000 of which will be electric bikes and 19,000 petrol bikes. And guess what? Students won’t have to worry about paying any interest on their monthly installments.

Installment Plan: To make bike distribution easier for students, the Punjab government has teamed up with the Bank of Punjab (BOP). The monthly installment for electric bikes is Rs. 10,000, while for petrol bikes, it’s Rs. 5,000.

Delivery: Transparency is key, so the government has decided to hold a draw in May to ensure fairness in the distribution process.

Quota: To ensure equal opportunity, quotas have been set. In urban areas, the bikes will be evenly split between male and female students. However, in rural areas, there’s a bit of difference with 70% of the quota reserved for male students and 30% for female students.
