In the last couple of years, the Punjab government has taken ample steps to digitalize its public services. Ranging from vehicle registration, driving licensing and testing, and number plates to smart cards best examples of it.
The recent update informed about a similar step that the Department of Excise Taxation and Narcotics Control (Punjab) has taken to make the process easy to accomplish and smooth for the citizenry. The department has made computerized smart card compulsory for the vehicle registration with a fee of Rs. 1300. Furthermore, the validity of the smart card is extended to one month.
As per the reports these cards will be directly delivered to the address given by the applicant. Pakistan post will help the department to send the card.
The report also informed regarding the discontinuation of computerized number plates and the reason behind the move is the complaints narrating their substandard quality. Consequently, car and motorcycle were left with no choice but to resort to open market to obtain number plates.
How To Register a Vehicle Online in Punjab?
There are different documents that car owners need to register local and imported vehicles. In addition, the documents for the registration of local vehicles are
- National Identity Card (NIC)
- Smart Computerized Card
- Proof Of Ownership (vehicle invoice, sales certificate of a car or bike)
- Insurance Certificate
- Copy of CNIC of the car owner
- Vehicle Inspection certificate
The documents needed for the original purchaser of an unregistered vehicle are as follows.
- Application for the registration of a vehicle of the form F
- Copy of the CNIC of the car owner
- Original sales certificate of the vehicle
- Original sales invoice of the vehicle
Online Registration
Last year, the Punjab Excise Department rolled out a user-friendly process, bringing the car registration and transfer of motorcycles and vehicles directly to your doorstep.
This initiative was poised to revolutionize the often-cumbersome procedures associated with vehicle ownership in the region.
The process
The process is designed to be straightforward and accessible to the general public. Citizens seeking new registrations or ownership transfers can initiate the process by calling the Punjab Information Technology Board’s helpline at 080008786 to schedule an appointment.
At the appointed time, a qualified Excise Department official will arrive at the applicant’s doorstep to facilitate the registration or transfer of their car or motorcycle.
