Toyota has always been a naysayer for electric vehicles and has remained a strong contender for ICEs. This ultra-compact battery electric vehicle (BEV), C+Pod, coming out of such a parent manufacturer, has raised speculations in the consumer market. Will the buyers accept this two-seater? This and much more are coming below.

2022 Toyota C+Pod – Overview

C+Pod might not be easy on the tongue but smart on the eyes. This compact BEV offers perfect features for beginners with restricted top speed and great road performance. Launched by the OEM in 2021 for selective consumers, it was readily made available for the commercial market in 2022. Following the footprints of Suzuki Cappuccino, Mercedes Smart, and Suzuki Twin, it is the first smart electric from Toyota under the micro car category.

Offerings & Features

Its overall exterior is inspired by the Toyota IQ, which has a further minimized body frame. Fibre parts are used extensively to minimize weight and improve stability.

This mini car offers practicality with an ample-spaced cabin suited for two passengers. Decent ingress, egress, and maneuverability are a few plus points to name. It features comfortable cushioning, decent leg space, and headroom. In addition, it comes with:

·        Airbags

·        Heated seats

·        Rear collision alert

·        Push start

·        Alloy wheels

·        Digital speedometer

·        Defogger

·        Parking sensors

·        ADAS

·        Adjustable headlights

·        Auto braking

·        Single-drive mode

·        Traction control

·        Panasonic rear camera and infotainment screen

·        Trunk size suitable for two shoulder bags

Battery Pack & Mileage

The C+Pod features a 9.06 kWh battery pack that can be charged in 3 hours on a residential charger. Toyota claims its cruising range is 150 km while restricting the top speed to 65 km/h. It is a rear-wheel drive with a small turning radius, making it best suited for students commuting within the city.

Verdict:

Competing the Gugo Gigi, Nissan Ariya, and Suzuki Alto, the Toyota C+Pod has a budget of 44 lacs, which is slightly on the higher side, considering its electrification. Otherwise, parts availability, technology updates, and battery pack maintenance would be a challenge for its buyer.
