After about six months of fatal accident engulfing six members of a family, once again, a speeding car driven by an underage driver rammed into a motorcycle in DHA phase 7, killing one and leaving another in critical condition.

According to a First Information Report (FIR) filed with the police, the incident took place on the night of June 10, 2024, when an over speeding car driver struck two motorcycle riders who were brothers. One of the brothers was killed on the spot, while the other was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

The Details

Eyewitnesses informed that the car driver was driving at a reckless speed and lost control of the vehicle, causing it to hit the motorcycle riders. The car driver then fled the scene, leaving the injured victims behind.

The deceased brother has been identified as 25-year-old Muhammad Usman, while the injured brother is 22-year-old Muhammad Bilal. The brothers’ parents are currently on Hajj pilgrimage, and their other brother has filed a case against the car driver.

The car driver has been identified as 28-year-old Mujtaba Waqas. Police are currently searching for the suspect and have launched an investigation into the incident.

Earlier in November 2023, a minor killed six of a family in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA), crashing his over speeding car into their vehicle. Afterward, Lahore Traffic Police unleashed a crackdown against underage drivers, pushing the motorists not to drive their vehicles without a valid driving license.

Since then, with an aim to make roads safe for daily commuters, the Lahore Traffic Police (LTP) has taken many steps, including digitalizing the process of seeking a driver’s license. Also, we observed a drive to make helmets mandatory for all motorcyclists.

This tragic accident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of over speeding. Drivers are urged to adhere to speed limits and drive responsibly to avoid such incidents.
