In the first quarter of 2024, IDC’s analysis of the worldwide smartphone market showed that Samsung reclaimed the leading position from Apple. However, this shift was primarily due to Apple’s decrease in sales rather than Samsung’s increase.
Samsung delivered a total of 60.1 million smartphones in Q1, which was a slight dip of 0.7% compared to the same period in 2023 when they shipped 60.5 million units. On the other hand, Apple’s sales in Q1 of 2024 were 10% lower than the previous year, with 50.1 million units sold.
The global market saw a positive trend for the third consecutive quarter, with a total of 289.4 million units shipped, marking a 7.8% increase compared to the previous year.
Xiaomi experienced a resurgence with a 33.8% growth in sales year-over-year, reaching 40.8 million units. Transsion also had a remarkable performance in Q1, doubling their results with 28.5 million units shipped, reflecting an impressive 84.9% increase.
