Samsung has announced that its 7.6” foldable panel, similar to the one found in the Galaxy Z Fold5, has passed the US Department of Defense Test Method Standard, also known as MIL-STD-810. This standard confirms that the product can withstand harsh conditions such as extreme temperature changes and external shock without damage.

Samsung Display has revealed that it is the first company in the world to receive this type of military-grade certification for foldable OLED panels.

Samsung's foldable panel is now MIL-STD-810 compliant

Each product that undergoes the test process must be able to withstand extreme conditions, including working after being covered in a 6mm ice sheet for four hours after being sprayed with water at -10 degrees C.

The panel also continued to function when the ambient temperature changed between -32 and +63 degrees for 2 hours each; each test must be completed three times.

The stress test also includes 26 drops from 4 feet (1.22 meters, which is the real-world height usage), and the panel also withstood 10.5G pressure through speed rotations.

A representative from Samsung Display told Korean media that foldable devices are not lacking in durability, contrary to common belief. It is expected that this standard will open the door for wider applications of foldable panels in the near future.
