Apple released its most recent affordable iPhone SE in 2022, with the previous version coming out in 2020. However, reports indicate that the company will not release the next version until 2025, skipping a year in between as of now.
When the next iPhone SE is launched, it will boast a new feature not seen in this budget-friendly range before – an OLED screen. Previous iPhone SE models all used LCD panels, but the next one will finally make the switch.
According to a report, three display manufacturers are vying for Apple’s orders for the next iPhone SE. Samsung is offering the lowest price per panel at $30, while BOE and Tianma are pricing at $35 and $40 respectively. Negotiations are ongoing, as Apple has countered with an offer of $20 per panel.
The display panels planned for the next SE will be similar to those used in the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14. This suggests that the 2025 iPhone SE may feature a 6.1-inch screen with 1170×2532 resolution and 1,200-nit peak brightness, and possibly even Ceramic Shield glass on top.
Reports indicate that Samsung Display and BOE have secured good yields for these panels, while Tianma is trailing behind. Samsung’s advantage lies in its experience producing panels for the iPhone 14, which can be leveraged for the next SE. Meanwhile, BOE is aiming to secure additional orders following difficulties with iPhone 15 panel production last year.
