The outcome of last week’s survey appears promising, but the OnePlus Ace 3 needs to make an impression in order to be successful – positive reviews are crucial as many people are undecided.

The Ace 3 didn’t escape criticism unharmed, with some expressing reluctance toward a phone of this size – the 6.78” curved display is proving to be a drawback for the Ace 3. Additionally, many were dissatisfied with the basic 8MP ultra-wide camera – despite the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 with an advanced ISP, the low-resolution sensor doesn’t give it much to work with.

The Ace 3 will also need to distinguish itself from other OnePlus devices – such as the older Ace 2 and Ace 2 Pro, the Nord 3, and other models. Global pricing is not yet known, but it will be revealed on January 23 – the phone (or a nearly identical phone) will be launched as the OnePlus 12R. It will reportedly be sold exclusively through Amazon in India.

Equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, a large LTPO display, and a 5,500mAh battery, the Ace 3 has the potential to be a sleeper hit for those seeking a gaming phone without the typical gaming phone aesthetics. Additionally, OnePlus is known for not skimping on cooling.

The Ace 3 will receive 3 OS updates (it launched with Android 14, so this means it should get v17) as well as four years of security patches – the SD 8 Gen 2 can certainly remain relevant until 2028 without feeling outdated and slow.

Unless it receives negative reviews, the OnePlus Ace 3/12R is likely to become a popular mid-range option – the 11R sold quite well (thanks to discounts from Amazon).
