The Punjab Communication and Work (C&W) department recently announced a significant increase in toll plaza rates, causing concern and sparking debates about the economic impact on citizens in the province.

According to a notification issued by the department, the new toll plaza rates will result in higher fees for motorists. Private car tolls will go from Rs. 20 to Rs. 30, a 50 percent increase, while buses will see toll taxes increase from Rs. 60 to Rs. 70. Other vehicles, including minibuses, wagons, trucks, and vehicles used for commercial purposes, will also face higher tolls.

The Lahore Ring Road Authority has also increased toll taxes for vehicles by 20%, affecting private cars, jeeps, passengers, coasters, passenger buses, dumpers, loader trucks, pick-ups, and heavy traffic.

As toll plaza rates continue to rise across Punjab, concerns about the economic impact on commuters, businesses, and the agricultural sector are mounting. Many are questioning the government’s approach to easing financial burdens on citizens, especially during a time of economic uncertainty. The impact of these toll hikes on the daily lives of people remains a cause for concern as February 1 approaches.
