The Samsung Galaxy S24, known as the ‘vanilla’ model, has been dismantled in a video by YouTube channel PBKreviews. This follows the footsteps of the top-end S24 Ultra, which recently received the same treatment.
It turns out that the S24 has a larger copper vapor chamber than its predecessor – in fact, nearly double the size, just like the S24 Ultra. This seems to be a pattern with Samsung’s 2024 flagship S-series phones. The teardown video shows all the different components that have been removed one by one.
To access the phone, the back plate can be removed after heating it. The camera lens covers are replaceable individually. Unlike the S24+ and S24 Ultra, the S24 does not have a UWB antenna.
Similar to last year, the mainboard is a dual-layer design. The 12 MP front-facing camera is glued in place and can only be replaced by cutting the glue with a knife. On the other hand, the rear cameras can be easily removed. Both the main rear camera and the telephoto camera are confirmed to have OIS.
The battery can be easily removed with a pull tab. However, prying off the screen without damaging it is nearly impossible – but if the screen needs replacing, it was probably damaged to begin with.
The Galaxy S24 received a reparability score of 9 out of 10. It received full points for parts availability, ease of battery replacement, and the ability to replace various parts such as the charger port. It scored 1.5 out of the 2 maximum points for internal organization, repair time, and screen replacement.
