Many individuals choose to keep their phone in a case, making the material of the phone less important to them. However, this doesn’t mean there isn’t interest in trying new materials. Last week’s poll on titanium shows that there is a lot of interest in this material, which is currently only available on a few premium phones such as the iPhone 15 and 15 Pro, the Galaxy S24 Ultra, and a special edition of the Xiaomi 14 Pro (and potentially the 14 Ultra as well, according to rumors).
This may not always be the case, though. For example, the Essential PH-1 featured a titanium frame and a ceramic back and initially launched at a price of $700 before dropping to $500 a few months later. The phone later saw further price cuts, though this was due to the company failing rather than reflecting the true value of the phone.

If the $500 price point was viable, we may see more phones adopting titanium. If not, it will likely remain a premium feature. Economic factors aside, the Galaxy S24 and S24+ continue to use aluminum and the old Gorilla Glass Victus 2 to help the S24 Ultra stand out.
With nearly 1 in 3 voters expressing interest in titanium-clad phones, it’s clear that many people will be keeping an eye on this material when it comes time to upgrade their old phone.
While aluminum and stainless steel also have their supporters (each winning over about 1 in 5 voters), it is unexpected to see them on par with titanium. Only iPhone Pros currently use stainless steel, and people in the comments had positive things to say about its durability and weight. As for aluminum, it is inexpensive and easy to work with, and when engineered correctly, aluminum phones can be quite rigid.
