IMC (Toyota Indus Motors) has seen a glimmer of hope after facing months of sales and production difficulties. There are signs of significant improvement on the horizon.

According to the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) report, Toyota Pakistan’s sales have increased by a remarkable 304%, with 3,570 units sold last month compared to 684 vehicles in December 2023. Toyota Indus sold 1,207 units of Corolla and Yaris, as well as 132 units of Fortuner and Hilux.

Previously, IMC experienced a sharp decline in sales and had to shut down production due to low inventory. Import restrictions imposed by the State Bank of Pakistan also had a negative impact on Pakistan’s car industry.

81% Increase in Car Sales

The automotive market in Pakistan has shown promising signs of improvement this year, with car sales increasing by 81% on a month-on-month basis, totaling 10,536 units in January 2023 compared to 5,816 vehicles in December 2023, according to PAMA.

However, there was a slight 5% decline in year-to-year (YoY) comparisons, with 11,124 cars sold during the same period last year, attributed to rising car prices and low car financing.
