Updating the city’s current traffic flow, Lahore City Traffic Police have announced that Ring Road is closed once again. As per a social media post, the Lahore Ring Road is shut down for all types of traffic. “Furthermore, Motorways towards Thokar Niaz Baig and Babu Sabu, Ravi Bridge are also closed,” the police announced, adding that citizens should call 15 for the latest updates regarding traffic.
In addition, the Eastern Bypass, Lahore-Sialkot Motorway, Saggian, Old Ravi Bridge, Thokar Niaz Baig, and Begum Kot Chowk are also closed.
It is essential to mention that the traffic police announced yesterday that Ring Road is open for the people, but this was due to the ongoing political protest in the country. As per media reports, the roads mentioned above are closed by the government to stop agitation in the city.
Motorways Remained Shutdown
Meanwhile, all the major motorways, including M-1, M-2, M-4, and M-11, remained shut down for every kind of traffic. As per the media reports, these roads closed for “maintenance” are expected to remain shut down for the next few days, so people need to plan accordingly. Due to these shutdowns, people are facing issues in traveling within the city and commuting to other cities, especially in Punjab. Furthermore, not only motorways, the highways in the province are also closed for the traffic for last 2-3 days.
Potential Fuel Shortage
The road blockades are also expected to impact the fuel supply across the country. Earlier today, reports suggested that private oil transport companies stopped their carriages and asked them to unload their fuel at nearby petrol stations. Meanwhile, the pressure of supply has come solely on the state-run PSO. Meanwhile, the transporters have reached federal and provincial governments, sharing that Punjab, especially the Lahore Division, may face fuel shortages in the coming days due to blockades of major highways and motorways.
Overall, the situation looks bleak for travelers and fuel supply. Hence, the masses should plan accordingly.
