The Department of Commerce in the United States has announced a new funding initiative for TSMC as part of the CHIPS and Science Act. TSMC is set to receive $6.6 billion in direct funding and $5 billion in loans for its semiconductor production facility in Phoenix, Arizona. Additionally, TSMC can apply for an investment tax credit that covers up to 25% of its capital expenditures.

TSMC has unveiled its plans to construct a third chipset manufacturing facility at its Phoenix, Arizona complex to meet the growing demand for 2nm chipsets. Production of these chipsets is expected to begin by the end of the decade. The Taiwanese semiconductor manufacturer has invested over $65 billion in its Arizona fabs, marking the largest foreign direct investment project in U.S. history. In the coming years, TSMC aims to manufacture 4nm chips next year, followed by 3nm and 2nm chips in 2028.
