In the latter part of last year, Honor introduced the X7b, an affordable 4G-only phone known for its expansive 6.8” screen and impressive 108MP main camera. It would have been even better if it had 5G capabilities, right? Well, now that option is available after a few months.
New Honor X7b 5G colors: Crystal Silver Emerald Green and Midnight Black
The Honor X7b 5G quietly appeared on the Honor website recently. A quick comparison shows that the old Snapdragon 680 has been replaced with a Dimensity 6020 chipset, bringing not only faster networking but also more processing power due to the outdated nature of the 680. The Dimensity chip is paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
There are a few other notable changes. The ultra-wide camera has been removed, which was only a 5MP module. Additionally, it seems there is no microSD slot or NFC, which may be a bigger loss for some users.
It’s worth mentioning that the X7b 5G is powered by a large 6,000mAh battery, an upgrade from the previous 4G version which had slightly smaller batteries in certain regions. Charging speed remains at 35W.
The phone still retains stereo speakers and a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is a nice touch at this price point. Though the exact price is unknown, it is expected to be budget-friendly.
For a comparison, consider looking at the Honor X50i and Honor 90 Lite, which also use the Dimensity 6020 chipset with similar specs overall (except for the battery, as both have 4,500mAh capacity). The X50i was priced at CNY 1,380 ($190/€175/₹16,200) upon launch, while the Honor 90 Lite was initially sold in Europe for £300/€300 but can now be found for around £200/€220 due to promotions.
