Concerns over driving licenses in Punjab have increased, especially after a tragic accident involving six family members. Following this incident, Punjab’s acting government has implemented strict penalties for underage drivers and those without a valid license.

In a recent development, the acting Chief Minister of Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi, has made a positive decision to extend the deadline for an increase in driving license fees.

This latest extension follows the previous announcement by the Punjab government that the increase in license fees was set for January 1, 2024.

With this additional time, citizens have more opportunity to obtain their licenses without facing the risk of spending time in a police station if they miss the deadline.

A 1566% Increase in License Fees

In response to the crackdown, the provincial government has raised driving license fees significantly, from Rs. 60 to Rs. 1000 for both cars and motorcycles.

This decision has sparked criticism on social media platforms, with many citizens questioning the timing of the increase given the growing compliance with traffic regulations by motorists.

Online License Renewal

The renewal of licenses can be done online, with options for one, three, five, and ten-year renewals, while international driving licenses remain valid for three years.

The government also announced that e-licenses can be downloaded easily, and candidates will no longer need to take physical driving tests.
