Lahore, renowned for its rich cultural heritage and modern developments, is preparing to launch a new chapter in its public transport system. After the success of the Orange Line Train and Metro Bus Service, the city is set to introduce its first tram service.

The project, approved by Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz at the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) headquarters, aims to enhance both urban mobility and the aesthetic appeal of the city.

Tram Route and Key Stops

The tram route will span 8.2 kilometers and pass through key areas such as Kalma Chowk, Main Boulevard, Hussain Chowk, MM Alam Road, and Mini Market.

Five trams will operate simultaneously, ensuring that commuters can catch a tram every two minutes at each stop. This frequent service will significantly improve convenience for residents and visitors alike.

This innovative tram system is expected to not only reduce traffic congestion but also elevate Lahore’s public transport infrastructure to new heights.

By integrating the tram with existing transport services, the provincial government aims to create a smoother and more efficient travel experience in the city. With the trams set to roll out soon, Lahore is once again leading the way in modernizing urban transit in Pakistan.

Rawalpindi-Lahore High-Speed Train

Meanwhile, in another move to enhance the travel experience within Punjab, the provincial government is considering building a high-speed rail line connecting Lahore and Rawalpindi. The proposed high-speed train is expected to travel at speeds of up to 250 kilometers per hour, reducing the travel time between Lahore and Rawalpindi to less than two hours. The project is estimated to cost around $1.6 billion.

However, funding for the project remains a challenge. The government will need to secure significant financing to make it a reality.
