Back in this September, we informed you regarding Punjab’s government move to bring personal number plates for those who want to adorn their number plates with custom names and numbers.
This time we came with another update narrating that the Punjab Excise and Taxation Department has opened applications for vanity number plates. Vehicle owners can now apply for custom number plates online.
On the first day, the department received 60 applications. Interested applicants can submit their requests through the e- Auction app on the vanity plate portal.
Excise Director General Umar Sher Chattha shared that 57 applications were submitted for the Platinum Category and three for the Gold Category. No applications have been received for the Corporate Category yet.
How Categories Are Divided?
The new launched scheme offers three categories for customization:
Platinum Category: This category allows you come with up to eight characters on your vanity plate, including names or meaningful words. For instance, you could choose “HARAM” as your number plate. Platinum category has a price base of Rs. 5 million.
Corporate Category: Designed for businesses, this category allows companies to display their names on their vehicles. Examples include COCA-COLA, PEPSI, NESTLE, U-FONE, and AI-FALAH. The Corporate category has a fixed price of Rs. 10 million for registration and an additional fee for each attractive registration mark.
Gold Category: If you are interested to add some specific letters or number on your vehicle number plate this category can turn wish into a reality providing you a mix of three letters and three numbers. The price for gold category clocks at Rs. 0.5 million
The ownership of these vanity plates will be permanent. To ensure security, the department has developed measures to prevent counterfeiting and will maintain a database of all vanity plate holders. However, the scheme has been marred by controversy.
