China Mobile is moving towards 5G-Advanced (also known as 5.5G and 5G-A) networking. The Oppo Find X7 series will be the first to receive support through an upcoming update this month. vivo has confirmed that the X Fold3 and X100 series will also be equipped with 5.5G support via an OTA update. Additionally, Xiaomi showcased exceptional speeds with the Xiaomi 14 Ultra.
The Xiaomi 14 Ultra reached a speed of 5,132Mbps, setting a new record for speed over a 5G connection. This achievement was a result of collaboration between China Mobile, ZTE (provider of networking equipment for CM), and Qualcomm (developer of the Snapdragon X75 modem embedded in the Xiaomi 14 Ultra).

The carrier aims to implement the new network in over 300 cities in China. This year, 20 new 5.5G capable phones are anticipated, leading to rapid adoption. China Mobile projects 20 million 5.5G subscribers within a year, compared to the country’s 850 million 5G subscribers as of February.
5G Advanced offers a significant increase in network capacity, with downlink speeds of up to 10Gbps and uplink speeds of up to 1Gbps. The enhanced capacity will allow for the connection of 100 billion IoT devices to the network, while also reducing latency compared to current 5G networks.
