Xiaomi’s ambitious foray into the electric vehicle market continues to impress. The Chinese tech giant has achieved a remarkable feat, delivering 130,000 units of its middle-to-high electric sedan, the SU7, within just nine months of its launch. This surpasses the company’s initial full-year delivery target of 100,000 units, demonstrating strong consumer demand and efficient production ramp-up.
Rapid Growth
The SU7, launched in March 2024, generated significant buzz with 50,000 orders within 27 minutes of its debut. While initial production faced some challenges, Xiaomi quickly scaled up production to 20,000 units per month by June. This surge in production significantly accelerated sales, culminating in the recent milestone of 130,000 deliveries.
Xiaomi’s impressive sales trajectory is further solidified by strong December sales figures, reaching 16,328 units according to China EV DataTracker. This remarkable achievement for a car launched in the first quarter of the year underscores the growing appeal of the SU7 in the Chinese market.
Expanding Production & Product Line
Looking ahead, Xiaomi is poised for further growth. The company is set to launch its second-phase car plant in 2025, significantly boosting production capacity and enabling even higher sales volumes. Furthermore, the upcoming launch of two new models – the three-motor SU7 Ultra sedan and the YU7 crossover – is expected to further expand Xiaomi’s market share and solidify its position in the competitive Chinese EV market.
The SU7 itself boasts impressive specifications. With a sporty design, dimensions comparable to the Porsche Taycan, and powerful performance options (including a dual-motor 4WD variant with 663 hp), the SU7 has captured the attention of discerning EV buyers.
Xiaomi’s success with the SU7 demonstrates the company’s ability to leverage its technological expertise and strong brand recognition to successfully enter the challenging automotive market. As the company expands its product portfolio and production capacity, it is well-positioned to become a major player in the global electric vehicle landscape.
